Bali teak furniture, and other kinds of handmade Bali wood products, have always been coveted items from Indonesia. Since before the colonization of Indonesia by western nations, Balinese mahogany, teak and other wood items were carved and constructed into furniture for royal families. The appeal for these luxurious items has steadily grown since then; today teak and other fine woods that are found in Indonesia make up many products of luxury furniture brands.
Warisan is no exception. Only the finest quality materials are used to construct custom, high-quality pieces of furniture for the home.

Warisan cares about sustainability. Because of this, a great amount of care goes into selecting the best-quality woods that are also locally sourced. Local woods that can be found on Bali or in neighboring Indonesian islands reduces the impact that importing foreign woods has on the environment.
Similarly, the woods Warisan uses for their pieces are taken from Indonesian plantations that carefully manage the trees to reduce overharvest. Each tree harvested is replaced by a new plant and the number of trees harvested each year is properly monitored by government agencies.
Teak is a high-quality, durable wood commonly used for luxury furniture. The wood is naturally weatherproof; when dried properly, the oils and other naturally occurring elements inside the grain create a weatherproofing that resists the elements, pests and rot. For this reason, Bali teak furniture is often used in outdoor furniture or in open-concept living spaces, as is common in Bali.
Teak is light in color, making it great for tropical style properties or themes. The tight grain and weather-proofing qualities of it make it long-lasting and strong.
Mahogany wood is similar in its durability but very different in appearance. The wood is dark and reddish in color, making it a great wood for more rich, bold themes. Mahogany has a tight, interlocking grain that makes it unique from most other woods and extremely strong.
Just like the teak wood, mahogany used by Warisan is expertly selected from Indonesian plantations that manage the wood to reduce overharvest and, as a result, their impact on the environment.
Not surprisingly, Warisan Indonesian furniture manufacturers use bamboo whenever possible as it is native to Indonesia and grows fast, making it a sustainable resource.
Woods such as Pine and Dammar are used sometimes but, due to their lower quality, only as structural elements. Quality is key in Warisan products.
Indonesian Rosewood is also used but in small quantities, owing to its limited availability. This, again, emphasizing Warisan’s attention to sustainability.
Alternative plantation wood is sometimes used as well, harvested consciously and locally, whenever possible.
Another material that lends itself well to tropical themes and open-air concepts is rattan. Rattan is a woven material made from very thin slices of wood and woven into various patterns. Because the thickness it is cut into and patterns created when it is woven are adjustable, the possibilities with rattan are extensive. It can be died or treated to change its color, making it an extremely flexible material for furniture. Smooth to the touch and with some give to it, it is particularly comfortable as seating.
Bali rattan furniture is very common near pools and in outdoor spaces, both of which are very common in Bali. While it often has the reputation of being similar to wicker, it is much higher in quality and more durable than low-quality wicker.
Warisan uses rattan in both their indoor and outdoor collections and most commonly in their Tropo collection. Customizable pieces of furniture can include rattan in any setting or in any theme.
While Bali is full of amazing artists that hard-carve and hand build wood items, the best Bali wood furniture products are made by Warisan.
